Description
I used various combinations of "swirl-distort" operations to create this Van Gogh-like Starry Night rendition of the summer milky way behind the abandoned rural Antiochia Lutheran Church in ND. The original image can be found with title "Abandoned but Not Forgotten - Antiochia Lutheran Nighscape #3 with milky way"
Original narrative follows:
___________________________
On a very dark and clear night last month, I tried to create/capture some visions I envisioned of the the Milky Way arching above the beautiful Antiochia Lutheran Church (Ramsey County, ND). I also experimented with some low-level lighting techniques whereby I placed my lit-Iphone and another small flashlight inside the building (during long exposures) to "bring it back to life".. This image features the "Back side" of the Antiochia Lutheran church with core of our galaxy (Milky Way) directly to left of steeple (we're looking south southwest here). The sky on this shot was composite from 6 separate 30 second images taken while tracking the sky motion (composited to reduce noise and increase detail). The foreground (church, trees) is separate 2 minute shot taken stationary at same spot/lens, and laid back in to the star-stack shot (else the church would be very blurred by the sky motion). That very bright "star" is planet Jupiter.
Images captured 9/10/20 with Pentax K-1 and DFA15-30 lens. I have shot this church at various times and lighting conditions and you can find many other examples here on my gallery (Search for "Antiochia")
