Artist's Description
"Beautiful Brinsmade"
Seen here are the two beautiful old grain elevators standing like sentinels, tall and proud in the heart of a Brinsmade - a tiny town (population about 30) which was booming in early 1900's when it had many stores, a bank, hotel, etc. (even a semi-pro baseball team!), but went into decline in the 50's, which further accelerated after the Northern Pacific railroad line serving the elevators was shut down. The elevator in the background is owned by our farm, but we only use the large steel bin. (edit/update - a few additional local images were added in comments, including a great history shot from Kevin Lunde)
Fun fact - Brinsmade was the scene of a battle between US Army and a UFO in the 2002 Spielberg series, "Taken". I remember watching the show and about falling out of my chair when "Brinsmade ND" came up in the dialogue! Scenery was all wrong though.

About Peter Herman
Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
