Black Eyed Susan Coneflower Sunset with mosquito
The sun was just setting in the background behind the cottonwood grove, so I got down on ground an positioned it behind the flowers and used a wide-open (f2) aperture to give some out-of-focus (bokeh) drama from the beams of sunlight streaming through a distant shelterbelt. Note the mosquito on petal of center flower - probably resting after it fed on me! I have a couple versions of this, including two horizontal versons (one with the mosquito and one without) - search for same title to view.

Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI.
