Artist's Description
I have photographed and posted images of Richard Young's stunning eagle sculpture (on centerpiece pedestal at the Stoughton Veterans Memorial Park) in a dozen different lighting conditions, grabbing the setting sun, etc., but last week offered a chance to align it with the rising nearly-full waxing gibbous moon with eagle lit by the orange skyglow of the just-set sun. I shot this with a long 300mm lens, so had to focus-stack the moon shot with the eagle shot, otherwise one or the other would've been blurry. I had to keep slightly re-positioning myself to keep the moon alignment I wanted - moon kept moving- fast with a 300mm! i.e. I generated a lot of cull shots!
Taken 9/22/18 with Pentax K-1 and DA*300mm lens.
About Peter Herman
Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
