CeltOak Creation - Celtic trinity knot vibes evoked by kaleidoscopic view of an oak tree
If you search my gallery for "picnic oak", you'll find this giant oak tree (located at Lake Kegonsa state park near Stoughton Wisconsin) in "normal" perspective, but when I was working on one of the prior "normal" images, I realized that the gnarly tangled limbs might create some very interesting patterns if kaleidoscope-like mirror-rotate-copy operations were conducted. When I started playing, I immediately started seeing fractal Celtic trinity-knot type shapes so I worked with adjusting the mirroring planes and rotation angles to emphasize that vibe, reaching this result. Note that that base-image used here was captured in 720nm wavelength infrared spectrum using a IR modified DSLR. The mirror/copy operations result in a very high resolution image file, so this would look excellent printed LARGE - up to 48"x48" so the bark of the tree limbs will be highly visible! About Peter Herman

Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
