Love this one!!

Peter Herman replied:

Thanks - this was "third time is the charm" situation - prior two nights I shot with "meh" foregrounds. On this night, I scoped out location ahead of time and talked with nearby homeowner (yes, believe it or not- very remote / unpopulated location, but a cabin right where I needed to be!) to get permission and avoid being shot at 3AM.

Artist's Description

Here is the beautiful comet NEOWISE photographed at about 3:30 AM on July 12, 2020 above the abandoned Big Coulee Lutheran church in Ramsey County, ND, on my third (and favorite) shooting attempt. This view is looking north northeast. The comet is now zooming away from the sun and is noticeably dimmer than even two nights before, but is still very beautiful, and will be visible in the evening sky now for a week or two. Peter Herman

Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
