Artist's Description
East Norway Lutheran Church series (Nelson County ND)
Through satellite imagery and internet searching, I have created a large database of "potentially interesting" locations on my google map so that when I make a trip, I can schedule stops along the way without adding hundreds of miles. Here's an example from a WI->ND journey- an abandoned Norwegian Lutheran church founded in 1903 and closed in 1967, per a history book clip. Amazingly the bell is still in place - I was shocked when I pulled the rope and the deep but crystalline tone roared out once again after a long slumber. On my FB photography page, I attached a recording/video of that bell tolling!
A couple other images are also available of this location - search for same title. Names on cemetery tombstones included Solberg (LOTS!), Johnson, Hillesland, Fjeld, Moum (never heard that name before).
Images captured 8/30/20.
About Peter Herman

Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
