Artist's Description

"Flowing to the Sun"
Here's a multi-shot stitched panorama taken from an overlook on the Wind Canyon hike at the ND Badlands national park, south unit. This view encompasses about 180deg field of view, and the source file is huge - you can zoom in to the little ice-pancakes in the river!! I also uploaded a taller 5:4 aspect ratio version showing more of the sky, if that is preferred.
In addition, I also shot a narrower angle, more "normal" perspective single-shot image that I also really liked (search for same name to see the others). On this shot, I liked how the just-setting sun lit up the cliff faces and dead vegetation with a beautiful orange glow. This image LOOKS warm, but looks are deceiving - it was very windy and bitter cold when I shot this!

Image captured 3/16/20 with Pentax K-1 and DFA15-30 (four shots at 15mm stitched). The sky on this actual day was "blah", so I selected a perfect "substitute" for use in this scene that I've been saving for year...

About Peter Herman

Peter Herman

Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
