Artist's Description

View looking out from a kitchen window, through the porch window of the Solberg farm homestead. I loved all the textures/colors in this scene, lit by late PM sunlight. Whenever I happen to be driving through the area, I can't resist pointing my lenses at this beautiful and stately old homestead on the Benson County (North Dakota) prairie, homestead of Ole Solberg. (Seach "Solberg" to see all the ones I've put up here on my gallery) The varying seasons and lighting angles yield new image opportunities, without fail. I could fill a coffee table book with images just from this site! The house's days are numbered though, as the concrete foundation on north side has cracked and is rapidly collapsing inward into the basement, leaving a large span unsupported.
Images captured June 7, 2020.

About Peter Herman

Peter Herman

Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
