Description
Great Northern Building - Devils Lake, ND
I've always admired this grand old triangular brick building located near the train depot in Devils Lake, and finally took a few moments to photograph it when I was in town. The building is somewhat reminiscent of the (much taller) "Flatiron Building" in New York City. I waited for a while to shoot, so the two pedestrians were at an appropriate spot to give a human element and sense of scale to the building. Also note the birds (seagulls, I think) above building to left. Originally built in 1909, it was formerly the Great Northern Hotel. According to one source, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry Truman addressed crowds from the balcony at the south side of the building! The building was renovated in 1980 into residential apartments and business offices.
Image captured 7/6/22 in the infrared spectrum (>720nm) with a modified Pentax K3.
