Artist's Description

"Home is Where the Lilacs Bloom" (1 of 2)
I recently posted a spooky/stormy infrared image from this location (presently my page banner photo) that went a bit viral, but here are a couple "pretty" shots from same site (different day, and normal camera). This is the Solberg homestead in Benson county, bedazzled with dozens of blooming lilac trees. I strongly suspect that Mrs. Solberg probably had something to do with getting all these flowering trees planted, and that she enjoyed the rich perfume of them every June, wafting through her open house windows . Those windows are still open (broken), but there are no longer any residents to appreciate the delicious spring scent.
This was the homestead of Ole and wife Aagot. Ole was born in 1869 in Norway, and his wife was born in Benson County in 1880. One of Ole and Aagot‘s seven children, Clarence and his wife Estrella lived at this home when I was a young child. They passed in 1999 and 1993, respectively.

About Peter Herman

Peter Herman

Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
