Artist's Description
"Life Will Find a Way"
This pine tree on Chapel Rock at Pictured Rocks national lakeshore lives atop a barren rock pinnacle, but imports its water and nutrients from the "mainland" through those roots spanning the chasm. And yes, that is a bald eagle posing for me atop the tree.
Image captured 7/22/19 from the top deck of the lakeshore cruise ship.
About Peter Herman

Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...

Fabulous and unique find!! Makes me wonder, were these carved by Mother Nature or man? Love the sturdy little tree at the top. Great capture of an interesting scene!! Congratulations on your sale!!
Peter Herman replied:
Thanks Lois, this is a natural formation on the south shore of Lake superior at the pictured rocks national seashore. There used to be a rock bridge from the pedestal to the mainland but it collapsed leaving the roots of the tree hanging across like a catenary!
