Pasture Perfection #2 of 2 - sunset at a ND pasture coulee with cattle
The clouds looked promising on this particular night so I ran to a nearby "sunset spot" in Benson County, ND, and did some shooting. Both of the images (search for same name) were taken with camera (on a 15sec delay timer) mounted to fully-extended tripod held as high as possible above my head (about 15' above ground). The first (#1) image was just at sunset, standing close to coulee. I hung around for a few minutes (not long enough!) and started plodding back through the very hummocky pasture (at this location) towards my vehicle. When I got to hilltop, I turned around, and the colors had dramatically intensified so I had to shoot a few more and this #2 image was the best result. So often, I don't hang around quite long enough after sunset - you'd think I'd have learned by now - at least 15 minutes! If you zoom in on both, you'll see some very happy (Kenner) Simmental cattle grazing in the distant pastur...
About Peter Herman
Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
