Description
"PoleHenge". A ND solstice alignment.
Last year, as I was driving through the countryside south of Penn, ND, I noticed this "infinity view" of powerline poles stretching off into the distance. I checked my sunset-direction planning app, and was surprised to find that the summer solstice aligned closely with it (strange coincidence!), so I marked my google map with a star. straight East-West (equinox- Sep 21 and Mar 21) alignments like this are quite common (since powerlines are often East-west aligned), but not solstice alignments, the angle of which varies depending upon latitude. Anyway, just by luck, I was back near the location this year, so I took the opportunity to catch a couple images of the fortuitous alignment. Maybe 1000 years from now, some anthropologists studying ruins will hypothesize that these strange poles were the "stone henge" of our times!
Image captured 6/18/21 with Pentax DA* 300mm telephoto lens on a Pentax K-1.
