"Prairie Perspectives"
The wide-open, fertile farmland of ND, crisscrossed and bisected by prairie roads and trails on almost every mile section line creates endless photo possibilities including wide-field panoramas that seem to stretch to infinity. Here's an example, taken from atop a hill just NW of Brinsmade, near where I grew up and even closer yet to where a bunch of my cousins grew up. I stood up on top of the rear-rack of the ATV I was driving to get a higher viewpoint for first shot, which was taken with an ultrawide lens, and the shot takes in about 120 degrees field of view, horizontally. The four-wheeler makes quite a shaky photography platform, but fine for fast daytime shutter speeds with wide-angle lenses (plus image stabilization)! The storm clouds on the horizon were approaching fast, and I played cat and mouse with them for the next half-hour, as they veered to the south. About Peter Herman
Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
