Description
"Private Decay" - 1 of 2 - the Erik G Aaker homestead near Hatton ND
This stately old beauty tucked way back in a beautiful setting amongst trees along the North Branch Goose river of eastern ND (Grand Forks County) north of Hatton is quietly collapsing in silent solitude. I shot this location earlier in spring (search "private decay" to see both), and took an opportunity recently to get this one in full "green season". From a 1910 plat map, I was able to dig up just a little history along with a photo of the residents, Erik Aaker and his wife, Karen who came to North Dakota from Decorah Iowa to homestead in 1879, ten years prior to ND statehood! Mr. Aaker was born in Lunner, Oplund, Norway in 1849 and he died in 1931. Karen was born in Ringebu Norway in 1851 and died in 1926. They had 5 children, Hanna, Gustav, Alfred, Ida, and Carl. Carl remained on the farm. Carl lived from 1886 to 1966 and married Eina Johnson and they had ~7 children according to another source I found.
Image captured on 6/13/22 with Pentax K-1 and DA*300mm telephoto lens.
