Artist's Description

"SnOAKflake"
I created a bunch more of these kaleidoscope-like images (another much "warmer" example can be seen by searching title "KaleidOAKscope - oak at sunset as viewed through kaleidoscope") but I particularly liked this one, which takes on the appearance of a snowflake, which is fitting because the oak was snow-covered in the source image from which it was derived - that image is available - search for "Fade to white #2" in my gallery.
This is a gigantic 100 Mpixel source file so would print very sharp at very large sizes. I used one of my highest resolution lenses in capturing the source image (Pentax DA*200).

I also have created/uploaded a "side-by-side two-panel" image with this one and the very warm one (with sun) if a wide aspect ratio print is of interest - search "SnOAKflake" to find it.

Image captured Jan 2021, and created Feb 2021.

About Peter Herman

Peter Herman

Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
