Artist's Description

"Solitary Oak, Soybeans, and Sunset"
I was out wandering around on my motorcycle last night enjoying the (reasonably) warm temperatures, fall colors, and cirrus-painted skies. Got lots of scenic pic's but this scene (just east of Basco, WI) was the one which made me practically "lock up the brakes", do a U-turn, and get my gear out... You may have to zoom in to see the combine harvesting the beans behind the oak tree. I had to wait a while for the combine to get in position, but all the elements came together nicely, I thought. I am a sucker for big solitary oak trees in fields, and kind of "collect them", photographically. They always make me think of Dad, and he would've loved this scene too.

Image captured 10/18/19 with Pentax K-1 and DFA 28-105 lens at 55mm and f13.

About Peter Herman

Peter Herman

Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
