Artist's Description
"The Cliffs at Grahams Island - 2 of 2"
While travelling on US281 near Minnewaukan a couple years ago, I noticed (from very far away) that some tall (I'd estimate ~35 foot) cliffs have formed on the west side of Grahams Island (Benson county, ND) due to wave erosion from the flooding Devils Lake. I took an opportunity to investigate, close-up, during my last trip to the area. We had to hike about 1/4 mile IN the water due to very narrow beach combined with hundreds of downed trees to reach this photographed area -I was pretty nervous, carrying my DSLR+lenses without a waterproof case! Ours were the only human footprints seen during entire hike - it almost felt like we were discovering this, although boats were passing by quite regularly! Another shot from different spot is available - search for "Cliffs" on my gallery to see both.
Images captured 7/8/22 with Pentax K-1 and DFA28-105 lens at 28mm.
About Peter Herman
Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
