Fantastic capture from a half mile distance. Love the tone on tone, and the waves of the prairies and the clouds as well. L/F

Peter Herman replied:

This was one of my personal faves from that trip. It just speaks to me..

Artist's Description

"The Vast Forgotten"
Northwest ND is a place that makes you feel small when you're there, similar to eastern Montana. I spent an afternoon/evening of exploring/photographing and have many photos to share which might communicate this feeling, including this example - a long-abandoned farmhouse tucked way back in on a rolling section of land SW of Grenora, near the MT border In this Covid-crazy world, I kind of wished I could go hide there, far away from it all. Zoom in and you can see a fancy bay-window on the south-facing wall - quite fancy for back in the day! This was shot with a very long lens, so the depth is compressed - I was 1/2 mile away from this house.

Image captured 3/17/20 with Pentax K-1 and DA*300mm lens.

About Peter Herman

Peter Herman

Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
