Description
"Tilting Tower of Tilden" (search "Tilden" to see other images available from this location)
This collapsing ~120 year old relic of a grain elevator is all that remains of the once town (?) of Tilden, ND (Benson County) which was a station on the Soo line Railroad. It makes me feel VERY old to know that when I was a very young boy, I remember hauling a few loads of wheat here with my father. I think the rail had already shut down at that time, but the elevator was still functioning for some purposes. The only history I could find (brief search) was in the September 1910 "Farmers Elevator Guide, Volume 6" which contained the clipped bit of text in photo, reporting its sale to the Farmers Elevator Company for $9250.
Two other images of this site available on my gallery - just search for "Tilden"
Images captured 11/2/21 with Pentax K-1 and DA*300mm lens (note the HUGE flock of snow geese in the background. They were migrating south during this time.
