Yahara Sunrise
Based upon favorable prospect for a colorful sunrise, I got up and out early yesterday morning and drove to a nearby scenic location where the Yahara River leaves Lake Kegonsa. I got there well before sunrise, since colors are always best about 15 minute before rise. This shot is a panorama stitched together from four shots with a 200mm lens (a "super-resolution" result that can be printed big). you can see a small flock of ducks swimming in the distance. Shortly after I finished shooting, an endless river of blackbirds flew overhead towards the sunrise - must have been millions. And shortly after that, the shotguns started blasting (duck/geese hunting season). Those ducks seemed to understand, and stayed put in their little paradise!
Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
