Artist's Description

Historic Wisconsin Hauge Log Church and tree swing - vertical version - Daleyville WI
Early Norwegian Lutheran immigrants to Wisconsin built this log church in 1852, and it is the oldest Norwegian lutheran church in western Wisconsin. The church is situated upon a beautiful hilltop just north of Daleyville, where the still-operating Perry Lutheran church that I posted a photo of a few days ago is located, and the history of the two churches is interwined. The immigants that built this church were followers of a charismatic preacher named Hauge, and the followers were often called Haugeans. It was illegal in Norway to conduct religious assemblies without a Church of Norway minister present, so Hauge was jailed on many occasions. Norwegian immigrants to America who followed Hauge's teachings formed their own synods within the Norwegian-American Lutheran church.

A horizintal version is also available - search "Hauge" on my website to see both

About Peter Herman

Peter Herman

Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
