I am almost certain that I have been there. We didn't have a sky like this one, though. Spectacular sky.

Artist's Description

Big Coulee Lutheran church - image captured 5/23/22, just as the sun was setting, just off to the right, from image. I loved how the color was reflected on the church wall. This grand old Lutheran church, was built in ~1934 and ceased operations in about 1970. She's showing her age, but keeps standing proudly on the ND prairie, despite being almost completely inaccessible for almost a decade due to flooded local roads from rising Devils Lake. I try to photograph it whenever I get home to ND. I also shot an infrared image at same time/spot. Just search "big coulee" on my page to find it, and about 25 others from here!

Image captured 5/23/22 with Pentax K-1 and Pentax DA15-30mm lens at 15mm

About Peter Herman

Peter Herman

Peter Herman was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. He first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax SLR, began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. He continued shooting through college, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning his engineering career at Cummins, he let his photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when he acquired his first DSLR and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI. Many of his images were encountered while riding motorcycle down random backroads during "golden hour", searching for that magic light...
