"Galactic Path to the Big Coulee Lutheran Church"
I had a clear and dark sky opportunity to shoot the "summer" Milky Way when I was up in ND recently, so one of the foregrounds I chose was the Big Coulee Lutheran Church in a remote part of Ramsey County, ND. The rising waning crescent moon provided most of the foreground light, along with some light painting from a small flashlight. The skies are very dark in that area due to low population density caused by Devils Lake flooding (a ~15 year event..), so the milky way is stunningly visible even with naked eye. You may recall the image I posted a while back of Comet Neowise at this location - that was looking north - this one is looking south towards our galactic center, which is located just to the left of the church entrance door. The VERY bright "star" is actually planet Jupiter. I also shot a wide horizontal format version which is available here ("big coulee" keyword and you'll see it and
many more).
Images captured 9/6/20 with Pentax K-1 and DFA15-30 lens at 15mm. Foreground image was a ~2 minute exposure, stationary camera. sky images (shot at same camera position, location, and time) composited from ~six 30 second exposures tracking the sky and then laid in on the foreground at same position.
